School Policies

In order to provide consistent expectations and a positive learning environment for students, please note the following school policies:

CLASSES

• Arrive a few minutes early so classes may start promptly.

• Fill up your water bottle, use the restroom, and put on your ghillies before the start of class.

• Let your teacher know at least 24 hours in advance if you will not be able to attend a class. We are unable to offer make-up classes.

• Dancers are strongly encouraged to practice on their own each week between classes.

• Street shoes may not be worn in the studio and ghillies may not be worn outdoors.

• All items which may be distracting to dancers or teachers, including phones, smartwatches, food or drinks besides water, toys, etc. are not permitted in the studio.

• Masking during in-person classes is now optional. Please stay home if your dancer or another family member is sick, has been exposed to COVID-19, or has tested positive for COVID-19. 

DRESS CODE

Please note, this is for classes and rehearsals only. Click here for information about outfits for performances and competitions, as well as tips for purchasing ghillies.

• Ghillies

• White knee socks

• Non-baggy t-shirt, tank top, or leotard (any color)

• Black dance/athletic shorts

Adults only: option to wear leggings instead of shorts + knee socks combo (no bare legs)

Long hair must be tied back neatly out of the face. No jewelry is allowed except for wedding/engagement rings and small stud earrings.

REGISTRATION

• All dancers must register at www.alexandriahighlanddance.org/register. 

• Private lessons are offered upon request and instructor availability. We are only able to offer private lessons to dancers who are currently enrolled in one of ASHD's group classes. Private lessons are not suitable for primaries or new beginners.

TUITION

• All classes must be prepaid. Tuition is paid by semester. We are unable to offer drop-in classes at this time.

• A 10% family discount is offered when two or more members of the same immediate family register at the same time. Contact us directly for the discount code.

• Refunds are not offered, except in the event of class cancellation at the discretion of ASHD.
